Attention Students

The SHHS Drama Department is proud to present INTO THE WOODS as the 2019 musical!  The story follows a Baker and his wife, who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King's Festival; Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk; and many of your other favorite fairytale characters!  When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch's curse, the two set off on a journey that has incredible, and sometimes dire consequences.  With many roles available, both singing and non, there are parts for everyone!

Audition packets are NOW AVAILABLE from Mrs. O'Neil or Ms. Hillyard!  Auditions are 12/10 and 12/11. Sign up for your audition time today!


Attention BE NICE students  

Be Nice will be canceled due to a staff meeting after school.  We will meet on  Wednesday, November 28.  Please still meet in your groups.  If you need a shirt please give me your order.


Attention students

Dual Enrollment registration for LMC is open for next semester!

If you're interested in taking college classes, pick up a yellow registration packet in the SSC office or view the information on the SSC website: https://shpscounseling.weebly.com/dual-enrollment.html.

 

Students must have qualifying test scores on file, college class(es) must work within the high school schedule, & you must meet with your counselor to register.

 

Make an appointment with your counselor to see if dual enrollment could work for you for next semester. The deadline to register is Friday, December 14 - but don't delay as classes fill up quickly!

Congrats South Haven Quiz Bowl team!!

Congratulations to the South Haven Quiz Bowl team for their 135-80 victory of Lakeshore High School Thursday night.

 

The Rams were led by William Hasted, Kyle Lewis, Elian Garcia, & Captain Jose Martinez. Jose led the team in scoring with 75 points in the toss up rounds. The Ram next compete on December 13 against New Buffalo and can be heard on WSJM radio on Sunday's.

Mark your calendars! Due to the superintendent search timeline, this year's Board of Education Awards have been moved to Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30 PM in Listiak Auditorium.These awards recognize students (10th - 12th grade) that have maintained a grade point average of 3.200 or above for the 2017-18 school year. Students being honored at the ceremony will receive an invitation by mail closer to the event!

Students must apply to KVCC first.

 

Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and a minimum ACT composite score of 21 or a minimum new SAT composite score of 1060 to be eligible for consideration. Students who are selected will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship for their freshman year. Students can receive an additional award of $3,000 for their sophomore year based on criteria being met. Looking to join another extracurricular activity that looks great on college applications, doesn't involve much effort, give back to the community and improves public speaking. Youth Advisory Committee is just for you. YAC is a group of South Haven Students with an interest in the future of our community. We fund grants that is submitted by nonprofits and teachers that will positively affect the lives of the youth in the community. Application process is very simple. Applications are in the office due November 2nd. This group meets once a month during Ram Hour.

Seniors, as you complete your applications for schools, FAFSA, scholarships, or if you're working with a military recruiter - complete a pink raffle card in the SSC for a chance to win free stuff! The more applications you complete, the better your chances for winning! There will be weekly drawings all of October. Winners will be notified via email.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL

On Friday, October 26, 2018, the High School Tri-M Music Honor Society will be presenting a Halloween Carnival for all children ages 12 and under (must be accompanied by an adult). The Carnival will take place from 4:30-7:30pm in the Baseline MS Gym.

 

The Halloween Carnival will feature an assortment of carnival games, pumpkin painting, face painting, photo booth, bouncy house, instrument petting zoo, concessions and more!

 

In addition, there will be a costume contest at 6:00pm.

 

This is a community event, so please feel free to share with all of your family friends and others in the community!

 

Admission is free! Tickets for carnival games will be on sale at the door for $0.50 each. Everyone is encourage to wear their costume and bring a bag/bucket for candy and prizes!

Students and Teachers: Do you want to dress up for Halloween? For $1 you can wear your costume to school on Tuesday for Halloween. Key Club is raising money for UNICEF and help support their cause. Please remember that the dress code still applies and your face can not be covered. October 31 in the morning come to room B114 pay your dollar and receive a stamp to wear your costume


 

Students interested in bowling If you would like to be on the bowling team this winter season, please stop by the Athletic Office and see Mrs. Schrader or Mr. Verseput in regards to setting up times to practice with the coach before the season starts. She is meeting with students on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The GSA will be holding a meeting to celebrate LGBTQIA+ history month on Thursday, October 25 starting immediately at the end of the school day and lasting until 3:00pm. GSA meetings are open to all students with open minds, no matter how you identify—straight and cis allies are welcome too! Bring a friend and enjoy some fun times!

Choir Trip!

The high school choirs will be taking a trip to Chicago to see a professional production of Beauty and the Beast on Thursday, January 17, 2019. There are 50 student tickets available for the trip and spots will be reserved on a first come, first served basis for students who turn in a $50 deposit and a parent/guardian permission slip, due no later than Thursday, November 1, 2018. Spaces are open first to choir students, and then open to other high school students as availability allows. Please see Ms. Hillyard in the choir room for more information.

Project Pathways Business & Community Career Expo

The Project Pathways group is excited to have another year of career exploration opportunities!

 

All students are invited to explore career opportunities on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 1:15-2:15 pm in the ILC. You must sign up in advance to attend. Sign up in the main office or in your RAM classes.

 

You'll have the opportunity to meet with business professionals, learn about what they do, ask questions, and find out if a career in business or government may be a good fit for you.

 

Students in all grade levels are welcome, especially those interested in business, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, insurance, accounting, finance, legal field, politics and local government.

HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL

On Friday, October 26, 2018, the High School Tri-M Music Honor Society will be presenting a Halloween Carnival for all children ages 12 and under (must be accompanied by an adult). The Carnival will take place from 4:30-7:30pm in the Baseline MS Gym.

 

The Halloween Carnival will feature an assortment of carnival games, pumpkin painting, face painting, photo booth, bouncy house, instrument petting zoo, concessions and more!

 

In addition, there will be a costume contest at 6:00pm.

 

This is a community event, so please feel free to share with all of your family friends and others in the community!

 

Admission is free! Tickets for carnival games will be on sale at the door for $0.50 each. Everyone is encourage to wear their costume and bring a bag/bucket for candy and prizes!

Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.5, and a minimum ACT composite score of 21 or a minimum new SAT composite score of 1060 to be eligible for consideration. Students who are selected will be awarded a $3,000 scholarship for their freshman year. Students can receive an additional award of $3,000 for their sophomore year based on criteria being met. Choir Trip!

The high school choirs will be taking a trip to Chicago to see a professional production of Beauty and the Beast on Thursday, January 17, 2019. There are 50 student tickets available for the trip and spots will be reserved on a first come, first served basis for students who turn in a $50 deposit and a parent/guardian permission slip, due no later than Thursday, November 1, 2018. Spaces are open first to choir students, and then open to other high school students as availability allows. Please see Ms. Hillyard in the choir room for more information.

Project Pathways Business & Community Career Expo

The Project Pathways group is excited to have another year of career exploration opportunities!

 

All students are invited to explore career opportunities on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 1:15-2:15 pm in the ILC. You must sign up in advance to attend. Sign up in the main office or in your RAM classes.

 

You'll have the opportunity to meet with business professionals, learn about what they do, ask questions, and find out if a career in business or government may be a good fit for you.

 

Students in all grade levels are welcome, especially those interested in business, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, insurance, accounting, finance, legal field, politics and local government.

Looking to join another extracurricular activity that looks great on college applications, doesn't involve much effort, give back to the community and improves public speaking. Youth Advisory Committee is just for you. YAC is a group of South Haven Students with an interest in the future of our community. We fund grants that is submitted by nonprofits and teachers that will positively affect the lives of the youth in the community. Application process is very simple. Applications are in the office due November 2nd. This group meets once a month during Ram Hour.

Board of Education Awards Reschedule

Mark your calendars! Due to the superintendent search timeline, this year's Board of Education Awards have been moved to Tuesday, November 27th at 6:30 PM in Listiak Auditorium.These awards recognize students (10th - 12th grade) that have maintained a grade point average of 3.200 or above for the 2017-18 school year. Students being honored at the ceremony will receive an invitation by mail closer to the event!

Quiz Bowl Splits

The South Haven Quiz Bowl team split their matches last night with a win over Cassopolis and a loss to Michigan Lutheran. The team was led by seniors Peter Filbrandt, Catherine Frost, Marnie Frost, and Joe Nelson along with sophomore Ellie Frost. Peter Filbrandt led all scores with 105 points in the heads up rounds. The Rams next competition will be against Lakeshore on November 8.

Congratulations to the Tri-M Music Honor Society and the first Annual Halloween Carnivalit was a HUGE success! Thank you to everyone that attended! High praise and wonderful comments all night long! Huge smiles from kids and amazing costumes. Thank you to the South Haven Music Department staff for all the time planning, organizing, and facilitating this event. Hundreds of kids filled the gym throughout the night, helping raise approximately $1,400 for Tri-M materials, events, and scholarships! Bravo to the HS students on well designed, created, and run carnival games and booths! Thank you to LifeBridge Church for loaning the inflatable for the event. Thank you to Bardens and Bumbleberry for pumpkins. Thank you to Big Boy for hotdogs/buns and the Movie Theater for popcorn. Thank you to Lotte Resek and Michael Vanden Tak from Foundry Hall, and Meyer Music for loaning instruments and helping with the Instrument Petting Zoo.
