Key club wanted to give out a big thanks to those who participated in our Ice Breaker last week on Thursday. Hopefully you guys had a great time and we hope to see you at our next meeting on Thursday, October 17. And if you missed out on Ice Breaker, it is not too late to join Key club! History Club Kickoff-Breaking Barriers

New theme for National History Day 2020-Breaking Barriers in Histoy.

Where: North Shore Elementary South Haven

When: Sunday October 27th, 2019

Time: 4:00-6:00

Finger Foods and desserts served

They will be reviewing this year's schedule, talking about the theme and signing up. ($20.00 for competition fee). The speakers will be addressing "Breaking Barriers." Work begins the week of October 28.

Attention Students

2nd Annual Halloween Carnival

On Friday, October 25, 2019, the South Haven Tri-M Music Honor Society will be presenting the 2nd Annual Halloween Carnival for all children ages 12 and under. The Carnival will take place from 4:30-7:30pm in the South Haven High School Gym. All students must be accompanied by an adult. This event is open to the public for children from all areas to enjoy!


The Halloween Carnival will feature an assortment of carnival games, pumpkin painting, face painting, photo booth, bouncy house, instrument petting zoo, concessions and more! In addition, there will be a costume contest at 6:00pm with various awards for each age category.


Admission to the carnival is free! Tickets for carnival games and certain activities will be on sale at the door for $0.50 each. Participants will receive one FREE ticket with every five dollars worth of tickets purchased. Everyone is encouraged to wear their costumes and bring a bag or bucket for candy and prizes!


The Halloween Carnival is sponsored by the SHPS Tri-M Music Honor Society. Proceeds help support the annual SHPS Tri-M Scholarship Award which is presented to a graduating music student. The 2019 recipient of a $1,000 Scholarship was Austin Hunt. Austin is now attending Michigan State University.

Attention Students

OCTOBER is College Application Month.

It is highly recommended that Seniors apply to colleges by November 1st. Apply at the college websites. Applying early provides early feedback and helps with planning.

OCTOBER is also the best time to complete your FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Apply at FAFSA.GOV. Students and Parents will begin this process by each applying for an FSA ID at STUDENTAID.GOV/FSAID

The FAFSA can open doors for many SCHOLARSHIPS. Colleges also have scholarships for students who plan to attend their school. Search their websites to find important due dates. For a list of our SOUTH HAVEN community scholarships, check out our website. shps.counseling.weebly.com

Art Club is open to all who want to use their artistic talent to positively impact the world.


Art Club is also open to students who want additional studio time.


You do not need to be in an art class to be in Art Club!

Senior Pictures for the Yearbook

Hard Copy-At least 1 3/4 inches tall by 1 1/2 inches wide

Digital images- must be JPG and at least 400 dpi

If you do NOT submit a senior picture, your school ID picture will be used.

Main office or Room B107: Deliver a copy labeled w/ your full name and the words "yearbook senior picture" to the main office.

If you need more time, contact us BEFORE the deadline to reserve your space in the section. -Color photos only please

Attention Students

Blessing in a Backpack Bowling Fundraiser

Its that time of year again - the 3rd annual Blessings in a Backpack Fundraiser on November 1st from 5:00 until 8:00pm at Lakeside Entertainment.

Cost is $10.00 for children and $12.00 for adults. This includes 3 games of bowling, shoe rental, pizza and pop. No ticket necessary; you can pay at the door. Tons of family fun while helping a great community program! Sponsored by: South Haven Public School Food Service Program and Union Local S.E.I.U. 517 M.

All guest forms MUST be turned in to Junior student government members or Mrs. Otto NO LATER THAN MAY 2nd @ 2:30. Otherwise guests will not be admitted into prom.

Leave a Legacy Award HS seniors...there is still time to apply for the Devon "Devo" Smiley "Leave a Legacy" award. This is a one-time scholarship award in memory of Devon Smiley. Applications can be found in the Student Success Center & are due by May 15th.


Ram Booster Scholarship

Attention Juniors

Ram Boosters are offering a $1000 scholarship. This scholarship is open to qualified Juniors with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Interested students should pick up an application in the counseling office.

Current LMC South Haven Campus Accuplacer Testing Center Hours:


Wednesdays 2:00pm - 7:00pm


Thursdays 1:30pm - 5:30pm


Fridays 10:00am - 2:00pm


Accuplacer tests are not timed, you do not need to register in advance, and you receive your scores immediately. All students who plan on dual enrolling must have qualifying Accuplacer test scores on file with their counselor.


If you already have qualifying scores from current dual enrollment, you do not need to re-test. See your counselor with questions.





Class of 2020 decided to add food to the Prom this year!!


They will have a Taco and Brick Oven Pizza truck!!


Students and chaperones are encouraged to bring cash to taste the delicious food!!


Slices of pizza and individual tacos dishes will be around $3-$4! Tickets for prom are on sale through May 3rd during all lunches. Or come see Mrs. Otto for a ticket.




Our History Club makes it to Nationals

We are proud to announce that the South Haven History Club will be representing the entire state of MI for the 10th consecutive year at Nationals!!


There were over 510 kids competing at the state level at Bay City High School. They place first -3rd in the youth category and then only choose 2 from the junior and senior categories to represent the entire state of Michigan (both peninsulas) to move onto national/international competition at the University of Maryland/DC. Just making it to state is an awesome accomplishment in itself. Our HS students


Winning the Best Entry in Naval and Maritime History in the state-Jesse Ford and Maddox Uckele- Sr. documentary: Final Voyage: the USS Indianapolis. (award sponsored by The Continental Commandery of the Naval Order of the United States)


Taking first place AND moving on to Nationals in DC- senior individual performance.: Avery Daugherty with: Nellie Bly; Ahead of her Time, Forgotten in the Papers.


Taking first place AND moving on to Nationals in DC- senior group exhibit -Nic Sheppard and Myles Daugherty with Triumph Lost in Flames: the Sultana Disaster.


Winning the Best use of Primary Sources in the state- Nic Sheppard and Myles Daugherty. (award sponsored by the Michigan Archival Association)


All members did an exceptional job and exceeded their personal goals. I am deeply proud of ALL them! RAM pride.
