20 Time Projects 2018

Jessica C. & Rachel S.
We are baking things we never baked before. At first, our goal was to get money by selling our baked goods at school but we had some difficulties with that so now we are only baking for fun and sharing the baked goods with friends at school.

I am attempting to gather art from people in the community and do a small show. Any donations given by the public will be donated to an organization that focuses on helping victims of sex trafficking. I’ve reached out to a few places trying to find a venue, and would love help with that. Also, I would SO appreciate if people that might be interested in maybe lending me whatever art pieces they have created contacted me. Veronica C. I organized a talent show to raise awareness for epilepsy and also to fundraise for research for epilepsy. Epilepsy is a disorder that affects the nerve cell activity in the brain that causes seizures. At the age of five my uncle was diagnosed with epilepsy after he fell off a chair and hit his head, which caused him to develope a pinched nerve in his brain. He was told that he wouldn't live to be a teenager but today he is now 60 years young. I wanted to raise awareness for epilepsy because, I feel that not many people know what epilepsy is and I thought it would be a great way to honor my uncle. All the donations that were donates at the show were donated to the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan. Jack F. I am going to be hosting a podcast called "We’ll Do the Talking". Each episode will consist of a discussion between two guests and I. The guests will not know what the topic is ahead of time and topics will be picked blindly out of a hat.Topics will range from “What did you do for fun as a kid?” to “Do aliens exist?” and everything inbetween. I am hoping to interview high school students and possibly teachers. Taylor H. My project, StrongHER, focuses on challenging media standards and encouraging Middle School girls to try new experiences. With 7/10 Middle School Girls refusing to try a new activity because of they way they view themselves, it’s important to increase their self-confidence in order to help them uncover their full potential. Desiree B. For 20 Time I've decided to do a photography project. I've always been interested in photography but I've always compared myself to others and never thought my pictures were very good. So, for my project I decided I want to get past the fear of not being as good as everyone else and do what I want to do. If my pictures aren't as good as I want them to be then that's okay because my goal isn't really to learn to take good pictures, it's more to get outside of my comfort zone and to stop comparing myself to other people. Carson B., Jonbrielle G., & Allie R. Our project, JAC Speaks started from us 3 seniors realizing going into freshman year, we had no clue what to expect. We have been presenting to and speaking with the 8th graders about what they might see in high school. We have so far talked about peer pressure and behavior in high school. Next we will be discussing safe social media use, cyberbullying, taking classes seriously, and accepting questions from the students. Katherine H.
For my project, I have been learning to play the trombone. I currently have been playing the trombone in class since the beginning of January. I have mostly taught myself how to play.

I’m producing at least 50 hip-hop songs for my 20 Time Project. I’m either creating the songs from scratch, by teaching myself how to play the piano, or sampling music from older songs. My goal for this project is to make myself a better producer, and inspire other people into making music too.

I am working on composing original music for band and orchestra settings. I am using the free program ‘Musescore’ to create the sheet music for these pieces. I have been working with my band teacher to help get ideas for some of my pieces, however I could use more feedback from others. I am currently looking for help with making some of my ideas come to life. I will try to post some of my pieces to the Musescore website when I can. (As of now I don’t have any of my originals uploaded, just rearrangements of some video game pieces). https://musescore.com/user/3683811

The goal of my 20 time project is to receive some insight on the Medical Field from people who have gone through the medical education process. I would like to see whether the medical field is actually for me before I invest a lot of college tuition money into a career in the medical field. With my 20 time project, I will shadow at the Bronson Hospital here in South Haven. I hope that with this Project I will help me get insight on the environment that people in the medical field work in.

For our 20 time we are going to create a rocket from scratch and fly it into the air. Since we were kids we had always had an interest in shooting rockets off with our parents and now that we are older we want to make our own rocket and shoot it off into the air. We will be making a rocket and rocket engine from scratch and attempt to have a successful launch with a successful retrieval of our rocket.

My 20 time project is trying to maintain a goal throughout the year rather than reach one goal by a specific deadline. I’ve been vegetarian since we started in December and have been staying persistent. My goal is to try to keep this going until the day of graduation. Eventually I may try to go vegan if i’m looking for a challenge. Since my project is pretty simple the only thing I am looking for is maybe some advice or ideas to make it easier for my health.
Dani G. & Tresa S.
Our 20 time project goal is to complete a Tough Mudder in April. We have been training for a couple months now and Tresa just recently got her gym membership so we have been going to the gym and working on strength. We are doing this project to see what we can accomplish together. It will be one of our last big things together before we go separate ways after high school.

I am learning sign language. I decided to do this because I feel it is some awesome knowledge to know. Although it’s very rare to see someone deaf, I think it would be cool to be able to speak to them. I like getting to know people. I am using a website online to learn my sign language. I think after this project is over I will still continue to learn sign language til I get very fluent.

My 20 Time Project is to save money for traveling to at least one country in Europe with my best friend. To achieve that goal, I need support from my parents and I have to get a job. I want to accomplish this goal this year.
